QP SUMMER TOURNAMENT

As part of their build up to the new season, the Queen's Park Under 19 team hosted a four team tournament at Loretto in Bishopbriggs this weekend, with teams from St Bernards, Symington and Colby from the Isle of Man taking part alongside the Victoria XI.

After a couple of hour long matches yesterday and another today, Queen's Park and Symington faced each other in the final while St Bernard's faced Colby FC in the 3rd/4th place play off, with St Bernards eventually seeing off Colby by the odd goal in five to claim third place.

The first half of the final was a close affair, but a minute before half time Queen's took the lead with a magnificent volley from Sean McBride at the back post following a cross from the right.

Queen's were in the ascendancy in the second half, and midway through the half extended their lead when the Symington goalie couldn't hold a Paul McClory free kick and Stevie Gibson rifled home the loose ball, then five minutes before the end Queen's tied up the victory when David Waters beat the offside trap, headed the ball over the advancing keeper before tapping the ball home.

Queen's starting eleven for the final was: Stuart Strachan, Sean Lennon, Gary Close (Trialist), Paul Paton, Jamie Daily, Paul McClory, Paul Cairney, David Waters, Chris Colquhoun, Andy Warren (Stevie Gibson), Sean McBride (Joe McBride).
